Sky Glass IPTV: How to Watch IPTV on Sky Glass (2026)

This is one of the most common questions we get, so let us answer it straight rather than sell you a fantasy: you cannot install an IPTV player app directly onto Sky Glass. Here is why, and what actually works instead.

Why IPTV apps will not install on Sky Glass

Sky Glass runs Sky’s own Entertainment OS — not Android TV, not Fire OS. There is no open app store, no browser, and no sideloading. Sky curates a short list of apps it wants on the platform (Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, iPlayer, ITVX and similar), and third-party players like IBO Player Pro, IPTV Smarters or TiviMate are not among them.

That is a deliberate commercial decision by Sky, not a technical limitation you can work around with a clever setting. Any guide claiming to sideload an APK straight onto Sky Glass is describing something that does not exist.

What actually works: the HDMI route

Sky Glass has three HDMI 2.1 ports on the back. That is your way in. Plug in any device that does run IPTV apps, switch the input, and you are watching:

  1. Get a streaming stick — an Amazon Fire TV Stick is the usual choice at around £30–£60. Any Android TV box works too.
  2. Plug it into a spare HDMI port on the back of the Sky Glass.
  3. Install your IPTV player on the stick — our Firestick guide walks through it step by step.
  4. Switch input on the Sky Glass remote and watch.

You keep everything Sky Glass does well — the picture, the sound, the Sky apps — and gain a full IPTV lineup on the same screen. Total cost of the workaround is one cheap stick.

The other option: watch on another device

If you would rather not add hardware, your IPTVMain subscription works on phones, tablets, laptops and any Smart TV that does allow app installs. One line covers all your devices, so the Sky Glass in the lounge can stay as it is while you watch elsewhere.

A note on Sky Glass and cost

Plenty of people looking into IPTV on Sky Glass are really asking a different question: whether they still need the Sky subscription attached to it at all. Sky Glass works as a standard TV over HDMI without an active Sky package. Worth doing that maths — our IPTV vs Sky and Virgin comparison lays out the numbers.

Try it before you commit

Run an IPTV 24 hour test on your phone or laptop first. If the lineup and picture quality suit you, then buy the stick — that way you are not spending on hardware for a service you have not tested.
