Watch Eliteserien Live: Norwegian Football From Anywhere
If you are Norwegian and living abroad — or you simply follow Scandinavian football — Eliteserien is one of the harder leagues to keep up with. It barely registers on mainstream sports packages outside Norway, and its calendar runs opposite to most of Europe. Here is how to follow it properly.
How the Norwegian season works
Unlike the English or Spanish leagues, Eliteserien is a summer league. The 2026 season runs from 14 March to 6 December, built around Norway's winter rather than through it. Sixteen clubs compete, with Viking going in as defending champions after taking the 2025 title, and Lillestrøm, Start and Aalesund coming up from the First Division.
The practical upside for anyone following from abroad: when the Premier League and the rest of Europe go quiet in June and July, Norwegian football is in full swing.
The problem with watching from abroad
Domestic Norwegian broadcast rights do not travel. Move to the UK, Spain or anywhere else and the coverage you took for granted at home simply is not part of the local TV package. Most expats end up piecing together highlights or following text commentary.
