IPTV Black Screen: Why Channels Load But Do Not Play

The symptom: The channel list loads fine, but selecting a channel gives a black screen, a spinner that never resolves, or audio with no picture.

This is the single most reported IPTV problem, and it is almost never a dead subscription. If the channel list loaded at all, your login worked — the failure is happening at playback. Work through these in order; the first two solve the large majority of cases.

Work through these in order

  1. Switch the playback engine. In your player settings, change the decoder from the built-in one to VLC or MX Player on Android and Firestick, or from hardware to software decoding. Some channels use a codec the default engine cannot handle. This is the number one cause.
  2. Try a different channel. If one channel is black but others play, the issue is that specific stream rather than your setup. Report the channel name to support and we can check or replace the source. If every channel is black, keep going.
  3. Check you are not over your connection limit. If the line is already streaming on another device, a new stream can fail with a black screen rather than a clear error. Close the other stream and retry.
  4. Force-close the app. Backing out is not the same as closing. On Firestick go to Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications, then Force Stop, and reopen.
  5. Reload the playlist. In IBO Player Pro press Reload on the home screen. In Smarters, refresh the playlist from settings. Stream URLs rotate periodically and a stale cached list produces exactly this symptom.
  6. Reboot the device and router. Unplug both for 30 seconds. This clears the network state that causes a black screen after a device has been left on standby for days.
  7. Test on another device. Open the same line on your phone. If it plays there, the problem is the TV device rather than the service — usually decoding or storage on that box.

I get audio but no picture

That is a decoder problem, not a connection problem. Switch to software decoding or the VLC engine in your player settings. Same fix as a full black screen.

Only 4K channels are black, HD works fine

Your device probably cannot decode the higher bitrate or the HEVC codec. Very cheap Android boxes and older Smart TVs hit this. Use the HD version of the channel, or move to a Firestick 4K.

It worked yesterday and now everything is black

Reload the playlist first. If that does not help, message support with your username — occasionally a line needs re-pointing to a different server after maintenance.

How do I know if my subscription has expired?

An expired line normally fails at login with an authentication error rather than a black screen. If the channel list still loads, your subscription is active.
