IPTV EPG Not Working: Blank or Wrong TV Guide

The symptom: Channels play fine, but the programme guide is blank, shows No Information, displays the wrong programmes, or is offset by several hours.

An EPG problem is almost always separate from a streaming problem — if your channels play, your line is working. The guide is a second data feed the player downloads independently, and it fails for its own distinct set of reasons.

Work through these in order

  1. Force an EPG refresh. In IBO Player Pro press Reload on the home screen. In IPTV Smarters go to Settings, then EPG, and refresh. Give it a minute — the guide file is large and does not appear instantly.
  2. Wait after first setup. On a fresh install the guide often takes several minutes to populate, and occasionally does not appear until the app has been closed and reopened once. If you have only just set up, this is normal.
  3. Check your time zone. A guide that is right but offset by hours is a device clock problem, not a data problem. Set the device to the correct time zone and enable automatic time. This is the number one cause of a guide that looks wrong rather than empty.
  4. Switch from M3U to Xtream Codes. With M3U the guide often needs a separate XMLTV URL entered manually. Xtream Codes pulls the EPG automatically, which is why it is the better option wherever your player supports it.
  5. Add the EPG URL manually if needed. If your player has a dedicated EPG or XMLTV field and it is empty, ask support for your EPG URL and paste it in. Kodi and VLC-based setups on Xbox always need this done manually.
  6. Clear the app cache. A part-downloaded guide file will not repair itself. Clear the app cache in your device settings, reopen and let it fetch the guide fresh.
  7. Accept the gaps on some channels. Guide data comes from the broadcasters. UK and major EU channels have full listings; obscure international channels frequently have none at all. A handful of empty channels is normal, an entirely empty guide is not.

FAQ

Related questions

Does a broken EPG mean my subscription is faulty?

No. The guide is a separate data feed. If channels play, your line is active and working.

Why is the guide right but a few hours out?

Your device time zone is wrong. Set it to United Kingdom with automatic time and the guide will realign immediately.

Some channels have a guide and others do not

That is normal and comes from the source data. Major UK and European channels are well covered; smaller international channels often are not.

Will Catch Up work without an EPG?

Not properly. Catch Up relies on the guide to know what aired and when, so fixing the EPG usually fixes Catch Up at the same time. See our EPG and Catch Up explainer for how the two work together.
